Downlight Installation: common questions
Do downlights need to be fire-rated?
Where a downlight goes through a ceiling that's part of the fire separation between floors, such as under a bedroom or in a flat, it should be fire-rated so it doesn't create a weak point. We check each ceiling and fit the right type.
Why do my LED downlights flicker?
Usually because the dimmer isn't compatible with the lamps or drivers. Choosing fittings and dimmers designed to work together normally fixes it.
How many downlights do I need?
It depends on the room, the ceiling height and what you use the room for. We plan the layout around where you need light, rather than filling the ceiling with a grid.
Can you replace halogen downlights with LED?
Usually, yes. We check the existing fittings and transformers first, and replace them where needed so the new LEDs work properly.
